Remembrance honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. We unite across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth.

In 2020 we pay tribute to the men and women of the Second World War generation, and to those of today’s, who have served and sacrificed to defend our nation. We remember the collaboration of the Commonwealth and Allied nations who stood shoulder to shoulder then to secure our freedom and the communities coming together today to protect us all.

Over the weekend of Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November 2020, Councillors will be laying wreaths at the above-pictured four locations in remembrance of those who have served from the Community area of Abertysswg, Pontlottyn and Rhymney. Owing to Covid19 Social Distancing and Local / Firebreak Lockdown conditions, Community Councillors will be laying wreaths at non-traditional times so to not cause a problem on gathered numbers.

Please note. Temporary road closures will be in place on Sunday 8th November 2020 between 10:30 and 11:00 (approx) at:

– Rhymney High Street, between St Davids Church and the War Memorial; and

– Abertysswg, junction between Walters Street and Charles Street.
